Windows Server 2012 coming soon!

Microsoft released Windows Server 2012 this month with great fanfare. GalaxyVisions expect it to be part of our server lineup in the very near future. Before then, here's a quick take on what's in this huge upgrade:

  • A new look and feel: Microsoft has simplified the "chrome" around this OS. Much like Office 13 or Windows 8, it's much easier to get to the information you need. We especially like how we're able to roll up multiple machines into server groups - and monitor them from a single window.
  • GUI optional: You can free up machine resources by turning the GUI on and off. This not only provides more resources but also improves security and saves energy.
  • DirectAccess: Setup is now as easy as stepping through a wizard. It takes care of Group Policy objects, certificate configuration, DNS setup and much more.
  • Resilient File System: Microsoft's new file system promises to be more tolerant of faults and catch corruption as it happens.
  • PowerShell Management: Everyone knows servers are usually managed from the command line. With Windows Server 2012, PowerShell has gotten a lot more powerful. In fact, it comes with more than 1,300 cmdlets right out of the box!
